England - And the Birth of Indian Greats

As the Indian team prepares for the all important tour to England its time to see what the past tours to the country have provided us. It all began in 1990 when a 16yr old went on to make his first test century. Indian cricket came to realise what Sachin Tendulkar was really made up of. The fire still burns in him and the hunger for runs still remains.

The tour of England in 1996 saw the birth of India's two most comprehensive batsmen of the past decade. Rahul Dravid and Saurav Ganguly came into limelight with both scoring well in their first test at Lords. All three of then today stand as pillars of the Indian batting line up and all of them have lead the team sometime or the other.

The previous tour again brought some young men into limelight. This time it was Yuvraj Singh and Md. Kaif at the same Lords ground. Yuvraj Singh has come a long way since then, appropriately termed as country's best ODI player, he might just lead the team one day. So will this tour provide us another batting great who would actually last in the team for long and lead from the front one day? Who knows.
